As part of heat straightening temperature treatment of carbon steel when steel is heated to 1,200 degrees F and then after steel is cooled in air to 600 degrees F, would use of compressed air application to speed cooling result in any negative effects on notch toughness?

Your site is rather disturbing to me. I am a degreed and practicing metallurgist. This site has left huge holes and is at times just WRONG. At one point in a post titled “What is cast iron” you state that slow cooling cast irons will have a fully ferritic matrix. The way it is written it sounds as if ferritic gray iron is common. In reality, gray iron is NEVER ferritic. Metal casters intentionally add elements such as copper to stabilize pearlite. A gray iron casting with a ferritic matrix would be useless.
Please research your work better before posting things to the web that many people are reading and taking as accurate.
